Agent reportedly offers West Ham £14m star, could he be Soucek 2.0?

West Ham United have been handed a chance to bring Ellyes Skhiri to the Premier League with Bundesliga outfit Cologne looking to sell the £14 million-rated midfield powerhouse, as reported by BILD.

Perhaps inspired by the remarkable impact Tomas Soucek has made at the London Stadium, many of West Ham’s midfield targets appear to fit a familiar mould.

From Skhiri to Morten Thorsby and Yangel Herrera to Dor Peretz, most are 6ft-something enforcers renowned for their aerial presence.

Tunisia international Skhiri, for example, is a giant – not to mention a massive threat at set-pieces. He scored a career-best six league goals in 2020/21, including two during Cologne’s shock win at Borussia Dortmund before Christmas.

Last month, German publication Express reported the Hammers were keen on the former Montpellier man.

According to an update provided by BILD, however, things may actually be the other way round – a case of Skhiri’s camp approaching West Ham rather than West Ham approaching Skhiri.

It’s understood Skhiri’s agent, the influential Fali Ramadani, has offered his client to West Ham and Napoli. It’s no secret the Serie A giants are also in the market for a solid central midfield player.

What’s more, Cologne are looking to cash in on Skhiri before the end of August having recently suffered losses of about £60 million. The France-born 26-year-old recently handed in a transfer request and would be available for about £14 million.

West Ham interested in Manchester City Yangel Herrera

Manchester City are looking to offload some of their fringe players this summer to raise around £100 million through transfer deals before the potential sale of any senior players.

The likes of Jack Harrison and Angelino have been sold to Leeds United and RB Leipzig already, while Lukas Nmecha is closing in on an £11.2m move to Wolfsburg.

According to reports from The Telegraph, City are looking to offload the likes of Yangel Herrera, Ivan Ilic, Morgan Rodgers and Pedro Porro, and recoup around £50 million from their sales.

Of the aforementioned players, Herrera is being targeted by a host of clubs this summer. The Venezuela international, who joined City from Atletico Venezuela in 2017, has enjoyed a successful past two seasons on loan at Granada.

Several clubs in Spain are showing interest in him, while Premier League clubs – Crystal Palace, Southampton and West Ham – are also keen.

The Hammers, who will be participating in Europa League next season, are looking to bolster their midfield this summer, and signing a defensive midfield is a priority for them.

The 23-year-old, who previously spent a season on loan at New York City FC, is valued at up to £20 million.

Meanwhile, The Athletic claim that the Hammers have decided that midfielder Declan Rice won’t be sold in the summer transfer window.

The England international has rejected two contract offers at West Ham already, with the talented midfielder aiming to play for an elite Premier League club.

West Ham player wanted by 3 Premier League clubs – Have made offers ‘without success’ for now

Despite West Ham’s great season under David Moyes last year, the Hammers aren’t immune to other teams around them wanting their players.

And we’re not even talking about the big teams above them, no, we mean Wolverhampton Wanderers, Crystal Palace and Southampton.

That trio, managed by Bruno Lage, Patrick Vieira and Ralph Hasenhüttl respectively, are but three of many Premier League sides to have taken an interest in signing Issa Diop this summer.

This is according to Foot Mercato, who claim that Wolves, the Eagles and the Saints are ‘interested’ in the French defender, who only managed to fully convince his Scottish manager towards the back end of last season.

The 24-year-old made 21 appearances in all competitions last year, and it might be that reluctancy to fully trust him that has caused Wolverhampton, Crystal Palace and Southampton to come forward.

Foot Mercato state some of those asked for a loan with a view to buy, ‘without success’ for now, but there’s still a long way to go in this transfer window, and we’ll have to wait and see how West Ham react if any of the aforementioned trio, or another club, come forward with a more enticing offer.
